A huge thank-you to everyone who came out to help at Shorne for the Big Dig weekend. There were over 220 visitors to the Dig and lots of fun was had by all.

The Big Big Weekend is back. The Weekend is held in conjuction with the Festival of Archaeology (Council for British Archaeology). Join us for a tour of the archaeology of Shorne Woods. Details below.

SWAG members have been involved in helping Andrew on one of his project at Greenwich Park. The excavation focused on uncovering a WWII air raid shelter in the One Tree Hill area of the park.

As a treat we also have a 3D model of the finished dig, provided by Peter Barry – thanks Pete. You’ll find the results by clicking through to Sketchfab.
It’s a bit short notice but if you, friends, family and dogs are looking for something to do tomorrow then visit Trosley Country Park, as they’re having an Open Day. Archaeology will, of course, be featured.

Trosley Park covers 170 acres of woodland and chalk downland on the North Downs and has fabulous views. You’ll find the park off the Gravesend Road at Vigo, Kent, DA13 0SG.
Here’s the blurb from the Park:
“Our open day is a great way to come and find out what Trosley Country Park has to offer. There will be lots of FREE activities to join in with including moth trapping, face painting and much more! Meet our Rangers and the array of vehicles they use around the park, find out more about conservation grazing and our sustainable wood products. Meet our Education Rangers and join in with some hands on activities (outside, weather permitting) Be amazed at our chainsaw carving demonstration, check out our beautiful viewpoint. Don’t forget our cafe will be serving hot and cold drinks, scrummy cakes, ice cream (including doggy friendly ones), sandwiches and jacket potatoes. Usual parking fees apply.”
