This week SWAG members are joining up with Sevenoaks Commons Heritage volunteers to survey Crockhamhill Common by foot. We’re looking for features that have shown up on a recent LiDAR map and recording details for future reference.

Today was a successful start with little to no rain to speak of. We found ditches (probable WWI training slit trenches), mounds (possible medieval rabbit warrens), the Common’s boundary wall and a hillfort. With our local guide Gareth at the helm we fought through the dense forest armed only with red and while survey poles. Tomorrow is Gareth’s day off so I hope the next team will make it out by sundown…
